That Time I...
Dodged Thunderstorms For the Most Epic Trap Hills Sunset

A simple idea: go camp on a high bluff in the Trap Hills in the Ottawa National Forest and hope to catch a colorful sunset.
The reality: I camped on a high bluff in the Trap Hills in the Ottawa National Forest and caught the best dang sunset of my life!
I've visited just about every bluff and cliff in the Ottawa by this point so I knew of a perfect spot to go. I got to camp just as the winds were picking up before a forecast line of storms rolled in, just before sunet. I set up my tent and waited as the storm clouds rolled in. The bugs were hungry but I didn't care, things were about to 'get lit.'
Truly, they did. I managed to dodge nearly all rain from the thunderstorms but caught all of the upside. High clouds caught the last rays long after the sun had set, ensuring this evening's show would go on for a long time. It easily went on for over an hour! All shades were represented, even browns and blues. It was astounding.
Come morning, the sun peeking through the fog put on an encore. Awww!
Also on this adventure, I hiked around the capped shafts of the abandoned Sharon Mine, forded the West Branch of the Ontonagon River, and explored a bluff covered entirely with lush grass. A winner of a weekend!
