That Time I...
Camped in -19°F Temperatures

The coldest camping trip I've been on (to-date) was -19°F. I decided it'd be "fun" to camp at the Oren Krumm shelter on the North Country Trail, a little ways past Tibbets Falls. Somewhere along the line I beleived the shelter would help keep me somewhat warm, which wasn't true in the slightest. Even draping my tent pieces over the bunk I stayed in barely helped. The air was just too cold. My stove barely worked in these frigid temperatures, and water bottles I kept inside my sleeping bag overnight froze. At one point I remember waking up and eating some fudge to kepe my body temperature up (as well as a few jumping jacks). This is the only time I've gone camping and slept in full snow gear.
On the hike out in the morning, I checked out Tibbets Falls which were totally frozen over. My truck barely started in the cold. Brrrr!
