That Time I...

Hosted Gear Junkie and Chevy for a Promo Truck Shoot

Through a weird series of events, I got connected to Gear Junkie who were looking for someone to help organize a video shoot promoting the new Chevy Silverado.  Being a local recreation leader and adventurer, I was tapped to find some extras, scout locations, and figure out timing for the trip for maximum effect.  I'd say I did my part!

The plan was a bit convoluted but worked well.  We wanted to capture some paddling scenes at Montreal Falls, but it had to be for sunrise.  That mean we had to paddle out there in the dark.  5.5 miles of following the stars, I finally arrived, just in time for their crew to be late and we miss the sunrise anyway.  So it goes!  We got some B-reel at the falls themselves and other shots as we paddled back to Bete Grise.

Later in the evening, we wanted to get some matching sunset shots in and around Copper Harbor.  Everything was going swimmingly until we heard an odd buzzing sound coming from the drone, followed by muffled cursing in the distance.  It turns out they were so focused on getting the shot that they accidentally crashed a very expensive drone into a tree and almost landed it in the lake.  Whoops.

The final shots of the trip were with a brand spankin' new Chevy Silverado.  We were going to showcase its offroad prowess on the road to High Rock Bay, some of the most treacherous two-track in the region.  But first, a sunrise photo shoot at the very end of the road!  Navigating the chunky two-track in the dark was a fun challenge.  On the way back, we got some more B-reel of the truck fording some beaver ponds and other gnarly stuff.

It was a cool experience!  You can find the video and accompanying article here.  Whatever happened to the truck, you ask?  The delivery driver who brought it up on a flat bed said they usually destroy them when they're done.  Bah!
