South Bluff

South Bluff is easy to describe. It's a bluff, and it's south of Rockland. Duh! There are numerous viewpoints along the ridgeline that look out over a fairly nondescript landscape of private lands, old rail right-of-ways, and distant rural highways. At least it's mostly undeveloped so you're not looking at houses everywhere.
I like South Bluff because it's relatively off the beaten path for most people. There aren't any established trails to the top beyond a few rugged ORV trails that stem from their primary corridor on the north side of the hill. You can easily bushwhack along the ridgeline for over a mile, taking in big views the entire way. There are plenty of massive oaks leftover from the mining era that dot the hillside.
Speaking of mines... watch your step. The Peninsula Mine and others left quite a few holes up here that are wide open. That'd ruin your day for sure.
